When I tell people that I'm fasting, they act like I'm fasting for 30 days straight. It's only from dawn to sunset. It's nothing compared to the many people in poverty who don't know where their next meal is coming from. One of the purposes of Ramadan is to feel how people who don't have food feel; But really, we don't, because we know we have a meal at the end of the day.

I thought about this once I heard about the story. If this guy was Muslim, he would be called a Terrorist/Jihadist/Islamic Extremist etc. But because he isn’t Muslim, his religion was never associated with his actions. This is another example of how the media is bias when reporting stories.

Today France’s ban on women wearing the niqab, face veil, came into effect. This law was passed under the guise of promoting women’s equality in Muslim communities but actually promotes further suppression.

Firstly, it makes no sense to liberate women by enforcing what they can or can’t wear legally. A law that forbids women from wearing a niqab is as bad as one where the state forces a woman to cover up. Both removes a woman’s right to choose. No matter what your personal opinion on the niqab or burqa is, it is a woman’s right to wear either if she so wishes.

Furthermore, the idea that this law will stop male relatives forcing women to covering up is nonsense. This law will actually increase the isolation of vulnerable women. Unable to go outside due to threat of arrest and fines, these women will end up effectively imprisoned in their homes. Any chance of receiving the support they need to leave such an environment will most likely be denied them as they have been turned into social pariahs. Muslim communities are already closing ranks in face of such laws so grassroots organisations that work with coerced women will be viewed with more suspicion and will find it very difficult to reach those that need their help.

This law needs to be viewed for what it is, a cynical attempt by a deeply unpopular president to improve his ranking in the run up to an election. Exploiting a public’s fear and hostility towards a particular community is unsavoury and unfortunately is becoming more acceptable by politicians throughout Europe and the USA. Those who cheer such laws as the niqab ban often have their own anti-Muslim and immigration agendas.

How the Islamophobes use the same verses over and over again to try and prove their point. Shouldn’t these people come together and say “Alright guys, this verse is over used”. I mean, it’s pretty sad. It’s the same “copy and paste a random verse out of context” method.

They should know that you cannot, with any literature, judge a book simply based on a random verse/line in the book. You can’t just say:

“Kill them wherever you find them…” - 2/191

This is very vague. How can you just use a random verse, in this case a fraction of the verse, to judge the whole Quran?

As a thinking person, if I wasn’t Muslim and someone showed me this, I would think:

1. Whose perspective is this from?

2. Who is it directed to?

3. What were the circumstances?

4. What do the verses before and after say?

5. Maybe I should look for myself.

I wouldn’t just going to think “OMG Islam is a religion of hate” by simply reading a fraction of the verse. It would be illogical to do so because I wouldn’t know anything about the surah, or anything about what the verses around this verse says.

People judge Islam like this all the time. They copy and paste verses and they think they know something, when really, they don’t.

Allah splits the seed and kernel. He brings forth the living from the dead, and produces the dead out of the living. That is Allah, so how are you misguided? (Qur’an, 6:95)

In the above verse, our attention is drawn to a food cycle of which people at the time of the Qur’an’s revelation could have known nothing.

When a living thing dies, micro-organisms quickly cause it to decompose. The dead body is thus divided up into organic molecules that mix with the soil and form the basic source of food for plants, animals, and, ultimately, humanity. Were it not for this nutritional cycle, life would not be possible.

Bacteria are responsible for meeting all living things’ mineral and food needs. Plants and some animals, which remain almost dead (hibernation) throughout the winter, revive in the summer and meet all of their mineral and food requirements through the activities of bacteria during the winter. Throughout the winter, bacteria separate organic wastes (i.e., dead plants and animals) and turn them into minerals.162 Thus, when living things reawaken in spring, they find food ready and waiting for them. Thanks to bacteria, a “spring cleaning” has been carried out in their environment and the necessary amount of food has been prepared for nature as it returns to life in the spring.

As we have seen, dead creatures play a vital role in the emergence of new ones. This transition, indicated in the Qur’an as “He brings forth the living from the dead, and produces the dead out of the living,” is carried out in the most perfect manner. This is one of the proofs that the Qur’an is the Word of Allah.
